Hello stranger, welcome to my blog. I created this blog to test out my computer and networking skills. I always knew what a website is but never really put much thought into what goes on under the hood. An idea popped up into my head and so I decided to make a blog detailing all the cool projects I’ve been working on so far. I made it with the intention of learning about the tech involved in creating and running websites. My blog is still in active development so expect lots of changes in the future.

Ubuntu Web Server: The machine this site currently runs on

Here is my humble Ubuntu Machine that I set up to learn more about running websites. Surprisingly, there are a lot of technologies involved when it comes to connecting a simple webserver to the internet and getting it running. Think (DNS, A Records, HTTPS, SSL, NAT Translation, Port Forwarding) and many more. And don't even get me started on routing protocols. There's also the physical infrastructure that connects my server to the device that your currently viewing this website on. Pretty fascinating stuff.

What is a Server?

A server is pretty much a machine designed to give you websites or a particular service. All sites on the internet are run on servers. Popular sites like YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and internet services like Gmail are all run on servers. Your doomscrolling habits would not be possible if it weren’t for servers.

Digital Minimalism – Efforts in Cutting Social Media

I’ve realized that my smartphone is just a fancy web browser which is used to view social media. I used to be in a habit where I would just doomscroll endlessly through the various social media sites whenever I’m bored or get home from school/work. This simply isn’t good for your brain, and I realized that it’s just a waste of time. What I’ve started doing is putting most of my social media apps on my main desktop at home. Surprisingly enough, it was a smooth transition, and I never really needed it. The amount of free time I’ve gotten from simply moving away most of the distractions in my phone is amazing and I recommend you do the same if you’re trying to gain more focus or simply trying to cut back from the brainrot.
